Cultivation of Bacteria
In modern biotechnology, special cultured bacteria play a crucial role. To control and support the growth of bacteria, certain conditions must be observed.
Carbogen – CO2 for Growth of Bacteria
If aerobic conditions are necessary, CO2 and oxygen or air are used. Carbogen is a gas mixture consisting of 5 % CO2 in air and is widespread as a standard atmosphere. In anaerobic conditions, the oxygen content is reduced or eliminated. Mixtures of nitrogen and CO2 (some with low oxygen content) are the gases of choice. CO2 is necessary in all cases to provide the required amount of carbon for the growth of bacteria.
