Natural Gas Monitoring
Natural gas is one of the most important energy sources in the world. The Wobbe Index or the calorific value are measures of its energy content. They serve as a basis for all trading activities dealing with natural gas or for billing gas consumers and therefore need to be monitored during gas transport and at the supply of end users. The Wobbe Index or calorific value are calculated from the measured composition and the physical properties of the natural gas. The composition is analyzed with process gas chromatographs (“PGC’s”), which have to be calibrated at regular intervals using calibration gases.
PGC Calibration Gas Mixtures
Messer offers a wide range of high purity gases, standard PGC-mixtures and customized hydrocarbon calibration gas mixtures in order to ensure maximum reliability and accuracy in gas quality measurements.
All calibration mixtures from our standard product portfolio are supplied with a certificate of analysis providing information on their exact composition according to EN ISO 6974 (Natural gas – Determination of composition and associated uncertainty by gas chromatography). Based on the gas chromatographic composition, the Wobbe Index is calculated according to EN ISO 6976 (Natural gas – Calculation of calorific values, density, relative density and Wobbe Index from composition) and stated on our certificates. Additionally, Messer offers, on request, calibration standards certified according to EN ISO/IEC 17025.
