ACETYLENE IS C2H2
Acetylene or ethyn is a chemical inorganic compound between carbon and hydrogen. Acetylene was discovered in the 19th century by Edmund Davy and rediscovered by Marcelin Bertholot. Acetylene gas is a highly reactive and explosive gas that is used in combustion processes where a high temperature is required.

APPLICATIONS OF ACETYLENE
Cutting processes: acetylene is mainly used in metal processing (scrap processing, shipbuilding) for cutting. Due to the high temperature, the metal can be cut quickly
Autogenous welding: the combustion of acetylene with oxygen produces a very hot acetylene flame with which the metal is melted. It is also used to eliminate distortions from a metal structure.
Niche applications: acetylene soot is used as a lubricant, for example.
ACETYLENE GAS BOTTLES
There are gas cylinders in different sizes and with different pressures. Depending on the type of gas in the bottle, the "shoulder" of the bottle has a different color, which is standardized under the European standard EN 1089-3. In the case of acetylene, this is maroon. An overview of the different colors of the gas bottles can be found here.
The bottles must not be filled with pure acetylene gas due to the risk of explosion. That is why the acetylene gas bottle is completely filled with a porous mass in which an organic solvent (DMF or acetone) is dissolved.
The available pressure at the outlet of the bottle depends on the speed at which the acetylene can withdraw from the solvent. Ensure that a non-return valve is always attached to the line to the acetylene bottle. If the flame speed of the acetylene exceeds the gas speed, the flame in the bottle may blow back and cause the bottle to explode. Therefore, first read the safety instructions!
For large acetylene consumers, acetylene is also available in bundles (linked systems of 8-20 bottles). For very large customers, the gas bottle bundles are mounted on a trailer. Because of the risks of acetylene, we offer alternative gases, depending on the needs of our customers. Call our specialists for more information.
